HOTEL BOROBUDUR JAKARTA AWARDED
ENVIRONMENTAL AMBASSADOR CERTIFICATE
Hotel Borobudur Jakarta has recently been certified as Environmental Ambassador by EPI Environmental Products Inc. as further recognition of the hotel’s contribution to preserving the environment.
EPI Environmental Products Inc., headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, are pioneers in innovative plastic waste reduction and environmental technology.
Hotel Borobudur Jakarta uses their degradable plastic bags, which incorporate TDPA (Totally Degradable Plastic Additives) produced by EPI. Triggered by heat, ultraviolet light, and mechanical stress, this plastic reacts with oxygen to become brittle, breaking down into small fragments that attract moisture. In the presence of oxygen, heat, and moisture, micro-organisms consume the degraded/oxidised bags, yielding carbon dioxide, water, and biomass. The carbon dioxide and water are used in plant photosynthesis to produce oxygen, thus returning it to the environment.
This use of plastic bags incorporating TDPA reiterates Hotel Borobudur Jakarta’s vision as an eco hotel. Other examples of the hotel’s efforts in preserving the environment include waste management, energy and electricity saving, water saving, and composting.
These efforts have earlier been recognized by TUV Rheinland Group by conferring eco hotel certificate in December 2010, making Hotel Borobudur Jakarta the first eco hotel in Jakarta.
